| Abstract: | The thesis deals with the introduction of Cleaner Production in industry segments lacking previous substantial and systematic experience with preventive environmental management. Cleaner Production is essentially a new way of thinking about products and services and the processes involved in their production, use and disposal systems, with a view to reduce the burden on theenvironment. The key issue dealt with in this thesis is how Cleaner Production projects in enterprises can be organised and implemented in order to contribute to the implementation of comparatively obvious environmental improvements in the short term and create favorable conditions for ongoing environmental innovations in the long term. An analytical framework for the introduction of Cleaner Production in enterprises is developed and applied in four industry segments; i.e., Dutch small and medium sized enterprises, Indian small scale industries, Chinese medium sized industries and Dutch multiple store retail companies. |
