SUSTAINABLE LANDFILLING (23 Sep 2010)

Dear Colleague,

In many countries waste management is experiencing a fast transition from landfilling to sophisticated recycling and waste to energy plants. Thus, the question arises: Is there still a need for landfilling in the future, and if yes, how should landfills be designed and operated in order to become sustainable?

In order to discuss current research related to the question above, Helsinki University of Technology - Lahti Center and Vienna University of Technology are jointly organizing an international conference in Vienna on September 23-25, 2010 on sustainable landfilling.

Please see the details in the First announcement and Call for Abstracts (http://www.iwa.tuwien.ac.at/landfill-conference/announcement.pdf). The deadline for abstract submission is November 30, 2009.

We would enjoy welcoming you in Vienna and are looking forward to receive your abstracts.

Best regards
Johann Fellner
Paul H.
ERSCP-EMSU 2010 Conference (25 Oct 2010)

3D. Industrial ecology, symbiosis, eco-industrial parks and resource recovery.

Industrial symbiosis draws its conceptual foundation from the ecological metaphor of biological symbiosis. Companies engaged in industrial symbiosis can be co-located in an eco-industrial park or distributed across a city or region. Industrial symbiosis offers potential environmental and economic efficiencies that have attracted policy and business interest across the world, both in terms of industrial transformation and of regional sustainability. In this area, resource recovery is also relevant and includes urban and landfill mining. This track invites state-of-the-art conceptual and methodological studies, as well as case studies.
TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE 2010 (11 Nov 2010)

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND/OR SPONSORS
CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND/OR SPONSORS

We are now accepting presentation proposals for TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE 2010, to be held November 11-12 in London, UK at the Grange St. Paul's Hotel*****.

TBLI CONFERENCE is the largest comprehensive annual global learning and networking event on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Investment in Europe and Asia.

Proposals should be received by August 1st, 2010 to be considered for the preferred Workshop of your first choice. We anticipate an even larger number of submissions as in previous years, so kindly respond as soon as possible.

Please click on http://www.tbliconference.com/submit-europe2010.html to submit your presentation title, introductory text, short biography and photo. These are essential minimal requirements for your submission to be taken into serious consideration - and will give us the possibility to immediately upload your entry on our website.

Kindly note that your title and texts can be edited until one week previous to the conference, but we need minimal information for our and your website program.

For all queries and information kindly email to europe2010@tbli.org.

Presentation Criteria, Rules and Benefits

- Presentations are eligible only if their expertise fits within the ESG and SRI parameters and offers new or interesting, challenging insights;
- Presentation submissions must include name, full contact details, the organization or company represented (if any), and be received via our online submission link;
- Presentations are not to exceed 20 minutes' duration;
- a typical Workshop session includes 3 presentations and 40 minutes Q&A;
in case of very high interest the format may changee to 4 presentations and 20 minutes Q&A;
- Speaker registration is considered final as soon as the (25% discounted) registration fee has been paid and/or Sponsorship fee has been received. In case of Sponsorship, earlier Speaker registration may become part of the Sponsorship Package and fees paid in advance will be refunded;
- Speakers are given free access to the Grand Dinner (Invitation Only) at the Grange St. Paul's Hotel ***** and receive a 50% discount for a colleague to attend the conference, request preferential networking opportunities and be automatically invited to TBLI side-events;
- Speakers must agree to submit a near-final version of their presentation no later than October 1st, 2010, so that Moderators may prepare;
- Speakers are to bring the final version of their presentation to their workshop (preferably on a USB stick) and the final presentation becomes part of the TBLI website presentation database immediately after the conference;
- Presentations which come across as sales pitches or which cater to a restricted political, religious or activist view without room for questioning or discussion will not qualify;
- Registration and payment must be completed as soon as possible after official invitation, but at the very last three (3) weeks in advance of the conference opening date. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from the conference program;
- TBLI does not cover travel costs and any other expenses incurred;
- TBLI complies with strict Dutch privacy law regulations and will never disclose contact information to third parties for commercial purposes.

Sponsorship

Premium, Lead and Supporting sponsors are usually given guaranteed speaking slots. Sponsorship Agreements and Speaker slots are not automatically linked: we have Sponsors who value the opportunity to be represented by a Speaker and we very much welcome Speakers not endorsed by a Sponsor who participate on the merit of their ESG expertise, tangible results and/or innovative vision.

If you are unable to sponsor, this does never mean you are not eligible to speak. Conversely, this does not mean that those who sponsor can present whatever they wish. New insights and high quality are and will remain our prime concern.

In case you would like to be a (corporate) Sponsor for TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE 2010, please click http://www.tbliconference.com/tbli-europe-2010/sponsorpackages.html and send an email or contact me directly.

Kind regards,

Frank Stevens
Conference Manager
TBLI CONFERENCE

Mark the date/location:
TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE 2010
NOVEMBER 11-12, 2010
Grange St. Paul's Hotel*****
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
www.tbliconference.com

Subscribe to our infolist http://tbli.org/updates

Next upcoming dates/locations:
TBLI CONFERENCE ASIA 2011
MAY 26-27, 2011
TBA
TOKYO, JAPAN

TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE 2011
NOVEMBER 10-11, 2011
Grange St. Paul's Hotel*****
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Stadionplein 65hs
NL-1076 CJ Amsterdam
The Netherlands
T +31(0)20 428 6752
F +31 (0)20 428 6753
E frank@tbli.org
W www.tbliconference.com
CUTE Final Conference (17 Nov 2010)

If this newsletter is not displayed properly please view the online version.

Hydrogen
 Transports!
Clean Public Transport Buses are Here and Now!

 From hot and dry in Madrid to cold
 and humid in Reykjavik, from flat in Hamburg to
 hilly in Luxembourg, and from congested in Berlin to
 full speed in Perth (Western Australia). The
 HyFLEET:CUTE buses have shown that clean public
 transport powered by hydrogen works.

 From 2006 to 2009 there have been 47 buses operated
 under an extremely wide range of climatic and
 topographical conditions. In total 2.5 million
 kilometers have been travelled and more than 8.5
 million passengers transported safely.

Within the HyFLEET:CUTE project, a Fuel Cell bus
 fleet of 33 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses was operated
 in public transport in 10 cities on three continents.
 There were no major breakdowns or problems caused by
 either the fuel cell technology and their components,
 or of the buses themselves.

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG (MAN) developed 14 buses based
 around the standard low floor MAN Lion’s City Bus
 model powered by two different hydrogen Internal
 Combustion Engine (ICE) technologies for operation
 in regular public transport service in Berlin. The
 naturally aspirated engines in particular have
 proved their operational readiness.

At the HyFLEET:CUTE final conference bus operators
 and industry partners will give results of their
 work in answer to many key questions: What were the
 performance parameters of the buses? What were the
 main technical problems during the operation? And
 what was their availability and reliability?

And the biggest question of all: When are we likely
 to see hydrogen buses commercially available?

The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz
 Fuel-CELL-Hybrid will be presented at the conference
 and will take passengers on test drives. First
 testing of the prototype has already showed further
 improvements: up to 50 % efficiency improvement,
 very low noise and a simplified maintenance and
 service concept with reduced operating costs. The
 zero-emission bus has been awarded the Gold f-cell
 Award.

MAN will also have their ICE Bus there for test
 drives.

For more answers join the HyFLEET:CUTE Final
 Conference in Hamburg, Germany on Tuesday, 17th &
 Wednesday 18th November 2009.
