NEW JOURNAL! Sustainability: Science, Practice & Policy (SSPP)

I wanted to take this opportunity to bring to your attention a new publication devoted to sustainability. Sustainability: Science, Practice & Policy (SSPP) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that provides a platform for the dissemination of new practices and for dialogue emerging out of the field of sustainability. As of last month, I have taken on the editorship of SSPP. The e-Journal is accessible at http://ejournal.nbii.org.
SSPP fills a gap by establishing a forum for cross-disciplinary discussion of empirical and social sciences, practices, and policies related to sustainability. This venue will facilitate communication among scientists, practitioners, and policy makers who are investigating and shaping nature-society interactions and working towards sustainable solutions.
The e-Journal includes:
* Guest Editorials The e-Journal invites prominent people involved in developing research, practice, and/or policy to write editorials. This section will include e-Letter responses to these editorials.
* Articles examining nature-society interactions, focused on sustainable solutions for practitioners and policymakers. Commentary from experts in related disciplines will regularly complement articles.
* Reviews of quantitative or qualitative research, trends, and approaches, written by experts who synthesize and critique evolving work in a specific aspect of sustainability.
* Community Essays, a moderated discussion of divergent perspectives on practical aspects of the intersection of environment, social, and economic issues within sustainability.

In keeping with the growing movement to transfer academic content to open access platforms, SSPP is freely accessible and articles can be viewed, saved, and printed without charge. The full contents of our inaugural issue are now on line and while you are visiting the site you can sign up to receive occasional announcements advising you when new material has been added. I also encourage you to give some thought to disseminating your own work through this channel. Because we publish on the web, once your article has been accepted it is possible to make it available quite quickly--often in a matter of days. We are also open to discussions regarding special symposia. Please contact me directly at mcohen@adm.njit.edu or get in touch with SSPP's managing editor, Amy Forrester, at aforrester@CSA.com.
