Workshop on Business Aspects of Closed-Loop Supply Chains V

The 5th workshop on Business Aspects of Closed-Loop Supply Chains (CLSC) will be held October 9-11, 2005 at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA. This year’s workshop will have three principal objectives:
(1) stimulate further research on CLSC by bringing together the leading researchers and their graduate students for discussions of current research issues;
(2) expand the scope of the investigation of CLSCs by including researchers and industry representatives with diverse perspectives or with expertise in new technologies related to CLSC;
(3) construct a bold research agenda to address the larger issues of economic and ecological sustainability of CLSCs.

Prospective participants are asked to submit a one-page summary of either a research presentation or overview that addresses a specific aspect of closed-loop supply chain management. In addition to issues of product recovery and reverse logistics, we will give special emphasis in this workshop to research on the following themes:
· Sustainable product design and development;
· Information Technology for CLSCs: Intelligent Sensoring and Monitoring
· Global CLSC networks;
· Sustainable systems.

Workshop attendance is limited to 65 persons to maximize interaction among participants. Participants will be selected based on a review of submitted research proposals by the organizing committee. Advisees are also encouraged to nominate doctoral students by submitting a short summary of the doctoral student’s research project. To apply, please submit your proposal via email to Joseph Blackburn (joe.blackburn@owen.vanderbilt.edu), Jo Van Nunen (J.Nunen@fbk.eur.nl), or Rajesh Piplani (mrpiplani@ntu.edu.sg) as soon as possible, but no later than July 15, 2005. We also encourage you to forward this invitation to colleagues with research interests related to closed-loop supply chains.

There will be no workshop fees, as we expect to receive funding to cover a substantial portion of the costs of the workshop. We also expect to be able to defray the cost of most meals and some hotel accommodations, but not travel expenses. Further information about the workshop, participants, hotel accommodations and program will be made available by July 1, 2005.
