"Understanding Industrial Transformation: views from different disciplines" by X. Olsthoorn and A. J. Wieczorek, Springer 2006.

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to present to you a recently released edited volume on:

"Understanding Industrial Transformation: views from different disciplines" by X. Olsthoorn and A. J. Wieczorek, Springer 2006.

It is an effort on the IPO part as well as some of the researchers of the Institute for Environmental Studies where the IT office is located:
- to bring together some of the disciplinary perspectives on IT; and
- to evaluate the usefulness of these findings for the long-term, transition-type of policy making.

The volume should be seen as a follow up/revision/complementation, if you like, of the "Research Approaches to support the Industrial Transformation Science Plan", which we made available via the IT website (Report no 19, Dec 1999). I believe there may be even more different views from the presented disciplines than those discussed in the book. By no means they are excluded from the IT field. This position is meant to contribute to a wider, cross-disciplinary debate on transformations towards sustainability.
