International Workshop on Engeering Education for Sustainable Development
Background:
Engineering figures human-being’s modern lives, but also brings serious challenges to human-being’s living environment. If we say that the world’s sustainable development is at the hands of engineers, then, engineering education for sustainable development is of irreplaceable importance at present.
Being one part of the United Nations Project “Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2015)”, the international workshop on “Engineering Education for Sustainable Development” is going to be held by UNESCO, China National Commission for UNESCO and Tsinghua University in Beijing in the year of 2006. The workshop aims to discuss new requirements to engineering education brought by sustainable development, engineering education’s new challenges and strategies. The participants include domestic and foreign scholars, school managers, pedagogical researchers and engineering personnel.
The workshop will be held in Beijing from 31st October to 2nd November, 2006.
Issues and format of the workshop:
The workshop is focused on new requirements to engineering education brought by sustainable development, approaches, contradictions and strategies for integrating sustainable development principles into varieties engineering branches, the practices of engineering education reform guided by sustainable development, international cooperation in engineering education for sustainable development.
The workshop will include plenary sessions and parallel sessions with panel discussions on the following five special fields.
1. Civil/Environmental engineering education for sustainable development
2. Chemical/Material engineering education for sustainable development
3. Information and Intelligent engineering education for sustainable development
4. Electrical engineering education for sustainable development
5. Energy engineering education for sustainable development
Scholars and officials from countries around the world will be invited to give keynote address.
The workshop will also arrange special communications between participants with students from Tsinghua University.
The workshop language is English.
