Background
SCORE! (Sustainable Consumption Research Exchanges) is an EU-funded network
project that supports the development of the 10 Year Framework of
Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). The mission of
SCORE is to organise a leading science network that provides input to this
framework. SCORE runs between 2005 and 2008, consists of 28 institutions,
and will involve and structure a larger community of a few hundred
professionals in the EU and beyond.
The development of the ten-year framework is led by UNEP and UN DESA
through the Marrakech process. Marrakech Taskforces - initiated by national
governments with participation from all regions in the world - have been
established to develop and test policies on Sustainable Procurement,
Sustainable Product Policy, Sustainable Tourism, Sustainable Building and
Construction, Education for SCP, SCP cooperation with Africa and
Sustainable Lifestyles.
Conference concept
The conference will:
* Mark the official launch of the SCORE Network
* Provide an opportunity for input of case studies on mobility, food, and
housing for the next, practical phase of SCORE
* Build a broad platform for presenting work of science and scientists
that may be of direct relevance for the activities of the 10 Year Framework
Task Forces
The conference is organised back to back with a dedicated UNEP/CSCP
invite-only event (November 22/23) where policy makers and other
stakeholders directly involved in the 10 Year Framework discuss key
questions they face in moving the SCP agenda forward and which scientific
support this would require.
Conference topics
'Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP): Opportunities and
Challenges' welcomes conceptual and research-based papers covering SCP in
the context of a range of issues:
* Consumers, behaviour and lifestyles
* Products, services and product-services-systems (PSS)
* Procurement and supply chains
* Developing country perspectives
* Education
* Tourism and travel
* Construction and buildings
* Mobility
* Agro-food
* Energy and electronics
The session topics have been chosen in such a way that researchers can
present work that may be of direct relevance to the activities of the SCORE
working groups or Marrakech Taskforces. For all sessions, SCORE is in the
process of making agreements with suitable journals on the publication of
special issues based on the full papers presented on the conference,
provided they are of sufficient quality and pass the regular review
procedure for the journal.
