The Science & Culture of Industrial Ecology
ISIE 2001 Meeting, 12-14, November 2001, Leiden, The Netherlands
The ISIE Inaugural meeting was held 12-14 November in a seaside town near Leiden in the Netherlands. There were approximately 300 attendees, 20 plenary speakers, and over 150 technical papers and poster presentations.
Highlights include a lecture by Fritz Balkau from the United Nations Environment Program, a panel discussion on the roots of industrial ecology and where it will take us, presentations on academic issues facing industrial ecology, and numerous technical sessions that spanned a broad array of fields including Life Cycle Assessment, Material Flow Analysis, Corporate Integration, Policy, Eco-design, and Industrial Symbiosis.

The next ISIE meeting will take place in North America in 2003. Details will be posted as soon as they become available.
