ISIE 2015 – University of Surrey, Guildford, UK; July 7th to 10th

The Society’s next conference will be held at the University of Surrey - a campus University at the town of Guildford in the county of Surrey in the South East of England, about 50km (35 minutes by rail) from central London. Transport to Guildford is easy, via Heathrow or Gatwick airport, by Eurostar train to London or, for a more leisurely journey, by ferry from St. Malo or Cherbourg to Portsmouth with a direct train from the ferry terminal to Guildford (one hour).

The Conference will run from Tuesday (July 7) to Friday (July 10) with meetings before and following the main conference. The theme will be to “take stock” of what industrial ecology and the ISIE have achieved and to consider possible future pathways: plenary speakers and panels will give reviews – both retrospective and prospective – of different aspects of industrial ecology. The contributions will be published as a book, to set out the state-of-the-art in industrial ecology as an emergent area of study and practice.

For more information, visit the official conference website here.

Contributions are invited for the 8th Conference of the International Society for Industrial Ecology.  The conference will include parallel sessions for presentation of papers, as well as separate poster sessions. For both presentations and posters, authors are asked to submit abstracts of 200 to 400 words (text only). The deadline for abstract submissions is 30th November 2014.

To submit an abstract, please visit Please note that the abstract submission system requires you to create an account.

Authors must indicate into which category on the list of topics the paper fits best; this will be used to assign the abstract for reviewing. Authors are also invited to indicate up to two further categories into which the paper could fit; this information may be used for scheduling contributions at the conference.

The list of topics is available at

Abstracts must be between 200 and 400 words in length – the submission website will not accept abstracts longer than 400 words. No written papers will be required for the conference, but all abstracts accepted will be provided to the conference attendees. They will not be published more widely, so that authors are free to submit their work for subsequent publication elsewhere.

All abstracts will be peer-reviewed and:

  • Accepted for oral presentation, or
  • Accepted for poster presentation, or
  • Not accepted for the conference.

Authors will be informed of the outcome of the review process by 31st January 2015.

Authors will have an opportunity to revise abstracts accepted in the light of the reviewers’ comments, before they are included in the conference proceedings.

To have an abstract or poster included in the conference papers, at least one author must be registered by 15th March 2015 and present the work at the conference.
