Postdoctoral researcher on energy transition sustainability assessment

 

At the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology, a Maria de Maeztu Center on environmental studies based in Barcelona, Spain, and one of the leading centers in environmental science in Europe, we are looking for a colleague to support the further development of tools for the sustainability assessment of energy transition.

 

The person will join the interdisciplinary group of scientists of the LIVEN Lab, led by Cristina Madrid. LIVEN is part of the SosteniPra research group and work on our European and Spanish funded research projects.  At LIVENlab we develop participatory methods and work with open access tools like our ENBIOS or the Calliope Framework.

 

What we expect from you:

- PhD degree

  • Topics: industrial ecology, ecological economics, environmental engineering, energy management, energy engineering or related.

- Participation in scientific publications

- Excellent time management skills

- Excellent written and oral communication in English

- Ability to work both in a team and independently

- Be comfortable working with open modelling/open access principles

 

Also valued:

- Knowledge of Spanish

- Previous experience managing research and supervision of students

- Experience with social metabolism analysis, LCA and/or Systems Analysis

 

What you will be doing:

- Designing and performing research on sustainability assessment of energy transition scenarios with LCA and social metabolism analysis

- Writing scientific publications

- Supervision of PhD and MSc students

- Participation in scientific events (conferences, workshops)

- Contributing to project and lab management

 

What we offer:

The person will be hired full time for 1 year with possibility of renewal. There is a 3-month probation period. The postdoctoral researcher will complete and work on a career development plan. They will work in person at the ICTA building although remote work for a few days a week can be considered. Salary is negotiable according to experience and dedication. Health insurance is covered. Expenses derived from research activities will be covered. We will support visa applications if needed.
