The Environmental Data Science and Systems Engineering group (led by Prof. Ming Xu) in School of Environment at Tsinghua University is seeking candidates (non-Chinese citizens) for a fully-funded PhD position for Fall 2024.
The student will have the opportunity to develop and apply state-of-the-art industrial ecology, lifecycle-based models, data science, and artificial intelligence in various areas to assist net-zero and sustainability transitions, including renewable energy, ecosystem service valuation, and low-carbon water systems, among others.
Successful applicants should have backgrounds in environmental engineering or other engineering fields. Previous experience in programming (e.g., R, Python), data science (e.g., machine learning), and life cycle assessment are highly recommended to apply.
The student will work directly with Prof. Ming Xu and a team of postdoctoral researchers and students (https://mingxu.tiangong.world). The team has developed and maintained the Chinese Environmentally Extended Input-Output database (CEEIO, www.ceeio.com) and developed the first Large Language Model application in environment and sustainability field – TianGong AI (https://ai.tiangong.world).
The working language is English. Students are NOT expected to be fluent in Chinese.
