EcoDataLab (www.ecodatalab.com) is a climate policy consulting firm. Our mission is to address climate change by massively scaling data science solutions.
We leverage state-of-the-art research, data, and technology to provide comprehensive greenhouse gas analyses. EcoDataLab is developing new approaches to understand and reduce these emissions, and building advanced software tools to make this data actionable for state and local policymakers.
Position Overview
EcoDataLab is looking for 1-3 interns to work on greenhouse gas emissions data, modeling, and analysis projects in Fall 2025. This is an opportunity for a current student or recent graduate to work on data, software, and climate policy simultaneously.
The Climate Data & Modeling Intern will:
- Develop Python tools for tracking and modeling greenhouse gas emissions and environmental flows throughout the US economy.
- Prepare data visualizations, including maps, charts, tables, and dashboards, using JavaScript.
- Collect, transform, and analyze a range of economic, demographic, geographic, environmental, census, and other data.
Projects may include:
- Developing regression models to predict household vehicle miles traveled from national survey data.
- Using EPA data tools to generate datasets evaluating the relative emission intensities of different industries by state.
- Building out visualizations and automated reporting systems for cities to understand and evaluate climate mitigation strategies.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Climate action, environmental policy, and/or climate advocacy experience.
- Python (pandas), JavaScript (React / Next.js), and/or R experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a remote team.
- Knowledge of how to responsibly and effectively leverage generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude, etc.).

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated hourly rate is $19-30 per hour, based on experience. This position is full-time (40 hours/wk) for recent graduates or part-time (10-20 hours/wk) for current students. Interns are expected to follow a regular weekday schedule with at least 5 hours overlap with 9am – 5pm Pacific time.
This position is open to candidates anywhere in the US, with preference for candidates in or around Oakland, CA. Interns may be eligible for benefits, including:
